"One of the guardian statues of the King (discovered in the ante-chamber of the Tomb) under the treatment in the Laboratory. Mr Mace (standing on the table) and Mr Lucas are seen at work on the consolidation of the gilt work, which was very fragile owing to the shrinkage of the wood and the buckling of the guesso underneath the gilt. With the exception of the arms this figure is carved out of one piece of wood. It is covered with a black lacquer-like composition, while the headdress, dress and arm ornaments are gilt upon guesso. The uraeus on the forehead is of copper and gold and the eyes are of gold aragonite and obsidian. Both statues have been treated for the transport to Cairo."

Flera föremål var i behov av omedelbar konservering. Ett
fältlaboratorium inrättades i Sety II:s grav. Här arbetar Arthur Mace (stående
på bordet) och Alfred Lucas med att fästa det flagnande guldet på en
väktarstaty. Träet i statyn hade krympt i den torra ökenluften och guldet satt
