CITROEN 2CV6 Charleston – engine

The Citroen 2CV6 Charleston (affectionately nicknamed Spaček in Slovenia) heard in the recording was manufactured in Portugal in 1987. It was later taken to Italy and afterwards to Slovenia, where it was purchased by Boštjan Troha, in 2008. He mainly uses it to participate in 2CV Fan Club meetings. They toured half of Europe together, from the Czech Republic to France, and it never once failed him. The car is fitted with a two-cylinder air-cooled 603cm3 boxer engine. Fresh from production line it developed 29 hp. Nobody knows what it is capable of today but it is still just enough. The chassis and internal upholstery were replaced in 2009 but the rest of the car remains in its original form. The car has a certificate of an historic car.
The Citroen 2CV is a legendary French car. Its development started in the 1930’s but was interrupted because of WWII. The vehicle officially launched in 1948 was in production until 1990, when a total number of 3,867,932 vehicles were manufactured. The designer’s goal was to ‘produce an affordable car capable of transporting two persons with a hat on their head and a basket of eggs, across a field’.
The principal features of the Citroen 2CV are a two-cylinder engine which makes a rather particular sound, and an extremely long travel suspension offering a soft ride. It was manufactured in nine countries across the globe and its peculiar appearance gave rise to a number of nicknames, such as Spaček (little freak) in Slovenia, Ente (Germany), Duck (UK). His owners share a special saying: "It is not a car but a way of life."
