Column krater. Thick, moulded rim, sloping slightly outwards; raised, rectangular handle plates at rim; concave neck; bulging shoulder; ovoid body, tapering towards base; hoop handles from handle plates to shoulder; ridge at junction between base and body; torus base. Pinkish brown clay; black glaze; ochre wash; added white and yellow paint. Reserved laurel branch on rim top; black palmettes within arcs and dots on handle panels; smaller palmettes on sides of handle plates; wave pattern on outside of rim; large ivy vines with leaves and berries in neck panels; tongues in shoulder panels; A: a youth in white wreath, boots, short, decorated chiton and himation holds out a phiale towards a maenad to the right; in his left hand he holds an oinochoe and a yellow wreath; the woman walks to the left and holds a wreath and a branch; she wears a kekryphalos, stephane, earrings, a necklace, bracelets and chiton; in the upper filed to the left a rosette with added white and yellow; on the ground to the left a small plant with added white; B: two confronting youths in himatia; the one to the right holds a stick, the one to the left a strigil; in the upper field paired jumping weights; A and B: the pictures have lateral frames of degenerate ivy and lower frames consisting of meanders and dotted cross-squares; junction between body and base reserved; reserved band on lower part of base.
