Flaring mouth with concave lip; cylindrical vertical handles; curved body; echinus-shaped foot. Decoration: the vase is mainly covered with a dull black glaze applied unevenly; “a large red spot on one side and a careless thumb-print on one of the animals complete the picture of insufficient technical skill” (Scheffer, p 53); on either side of the vase there is a large panel with an animal: on one side a boar snuffling the ground and on the other a stag, turning its head to the back; both animals are turned to the left, with straight front legs and bent hind legs; the animals are in black paint on a yellowish-brown background, with incised details; above the animals hang lotus-buds with interlacing stems and dots in some of the interstices, with one glazed line above and two below.
