The rapier loom is a product of the company Günne, which is based in the Sauerland. Its construction dates back to 1970. Before it was added to the collection of the LWL-Industrial Museum, the machine stood in the Hausweberei (private weaving mill) of Rüdiger Wende in Almbranz near Helmbrechts in Upper Franconia. The special technical features of the loom are the rapier rod and the dobby machine, a product of Stäubli & Trumpelt. The system of dobby machines is characteristic of this loom: two rows of parallel lifters placed one over the other, which are each pulled by a rapier. The main sounds are the electric motor and the up and down motions of the “shafts”.
