oso THE AMERICAN-SCANDINAVIAN FOUNDATION 116 EAST SIXTY-FOURTH STREET NEW YORK (CABLE ÅDDRESS "SCANFOUN NEW YORK” April 23, 1957 Dear Professor Andersson: I was indeed delighted when I heard from my good friend Olof Lamm that there was a chance of your coming to America next year with the Swedish Tercentenary Leetures group. It has been a long time since our meeting with the Crom Prince of Sweden, and I look back on that pleasant incident with particular pleasure. How nice that we are soon to meet again! Perhaps news of the Swedish Tercentenary Lectures has been slow to reach China, and so I am sending a pamphlet thet we have had made up for our temporary use. This pamphlet is by no means complete but it gives us something to work with as a start. My friend Olof is acting as key-men in Sweden and I have taken on the pleasant task of acting as internediary for the universities in this country. Work is progressing and we find your name as one of those leading the field in our first survey of the universities. Among those who have spoken for lectures by you are: University of Cincinnati, Clark University, Field Nusewn, University of Vermont, University of Idaho, Elmira College - and, of course, Columbia University whose offef you will have heard of by now. I am hoping most fervently that you will be able to accept this offer. The invitation came from lir. William B Dinsmoor who is aleo President of the Archaeologicel Institute of America, It is a thirteen week engagement, commencing about the second of February and involves a weekly lecture of an hour and fifty minutes with a ten minute rest period. This, of course, would allow you to keep other near-by engagements as well. I am not sure how long Co- lumbia is able to keep open this offer and so I am hoping that we will get an early answer from you. Ås most of the series of lectures in universities are already filled for next year, this offer from Co- lugbia is one that I am praying we will not have to pass by. Most of ovr demands so far have been for single lectures, or at most, a series of two or three.
