Cranium with mandible of Older adult Male. Decoration is limited to a small loop of reed or frond tied around the right zygo arch. Labial and buccal surfaces of many teeth stained black from betel nut use. Skull is relatively clean with minimal dark-medium grey soil or soil residue (ears, sphenoid, orbits, nasal, basicranium, maxilla, mandible), and relatively few roots (primarily in the orbits). Skull is mottled in color, primarily a medium-dark reddish-brown with areas of ligther "natural bone" color on left maxilla, orbit, parietal, vault, and mandible. Small spots of white organic residue on left parietal and a few spots of surface exfoliation/spaulding on the nuchal crest, right occipital, and both parietals. Mandibular posterior border lightly polished. No obvious trauma or osseous pathology. Most teeth are in situ and moderately to severely worn (pulp chambers exposed for most anterior teeth). Most teeth also stained black from betel nut use and/or soil and most show score 1 calculus. LM3s lost antemortem, crypts closed. UM3s possibly pegged due to open crypt dimensions, possibly lost postmortem. Right UM2 crypt shows destruction from abcesses below the medial root and possibly also distally, removing the medial side of the M3 crypt. Alveolar margins of both arcades are mostly intact, but some minor periodontal pitting is seen in the maxilla. Maxilla: Severe wear prevents accurate assessment of all traits. Mandible: Moderate to heavy occlusal wear across most remaining dentition preventing accurate measurements in some instances.
