19th Dynasty, New Kingdom
Sety I was a second ruler of a dynasty descending from the eastern Nile Delta. He continued the work of restoring the temples that had been closed and left to decay during the Amarna Period. Sety I also commissioned the building of several monuments of his own, the most beautiful and famous of which is probably the temple of Abydos.
The great hypostyle hall of the temple of Karnak was built during his . The walls of the hall tell of the king’s successful military campaigns in Syria and Palestine, the purpose of which was to restore the loss of power and influence that Egypt had suffered in this region.
Sety I also had new caravan routes laid out and new wells dug, especially in the Eastern Desert where the old gold mines were once again brought into use. Order was restored following the Amarna Period.
Sety I founded a new settlement at the domicile of his ancestors in the Delta region, which during the reign of his successor, grew into the city of Pi-Ramesse.

Sety I var den andre kungen i en dynasti som härstammade från östra Nildeltat. Han fortsatte arbetet med att restaurera tempel som hade stängts och förfallit under Amarna-perioden. Sety I lät också bygga flera egna monument och är kanske mest känd för sitt vackra tempel i Abydos.
Under Sety I byggdes också den stora pelarhallen i Karnak-templet. På hallens väggar berättas om kungens framgångsrika fälttåg i Syrien och Palestina, krig som syftade till att återställa Egyptens förlorade inflytande i området.
Sety I lät dra nya karavanrutter och gräva nya brunnar, framför allt i den östra öknen, där man återöppnade gamla guldgruvor. Ordningen efter Amarna var återställd.
Sety I grundade ett nytt residens på släktens hemort i Deltat, under hans efterträdare växte staden och blev känd som Pi-Ramses.
