In September 2017 the Thyssenkrupp AG announced their plans for a fusion with the Indian steel cooperation Tata. The employees, the works council and the workers’ union IG Metall feared that Thyssenkrupp would close further steel works in Germany and dismiss employees. As a result, 7000 metal workers from all over Germany joined for a protest march and rally against the fusion of the two steel companies in Bochum. One of the speakers at the rally was politician Andrea Nahles from the SPD. At the time she was social minister of the Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Her voice gets very loud and she puts a lot of energy into the speech, when she criticises German cooperations for moving their production to other countries and dismissing employees in Germany. However, it should be noted that this rally took place 2 days before general election in Germany on 24th of September 2017.
