1916.9.12
Name and identification of character
A Kolam mask depicting Prince Maname, Maname Kumaraya (Sin.).
Context
The main character in the story called Maname Kathava. (Vide Preface, and 1916.9.11).
Material
Wood, vel-kaduru (Nux vomica), and traditional paint.
Iconography
The face is painted lemon-yellow. The paint has partly faded. The upper part of the crown is divided into three parts, in the shape of a relic dome, dagäba (Sin.), with a pinnacle at the top. The colour of the third tier of the crown is the same as the face except for a design that comes very close to the pine-flower design of Kandyan art.
