A Moorman, marakkalaya (Sin.).
Context
This character appears in a solo dance in the second stage of a Kolam performance.
Material
Wood, Vel-kaduru (Nux vomica).
Iconography
The cap has the normal, two equally protruding flaps but the centre portion appears to represent hair combed back and painted in black. The side-whiskers are short and are painted in black. The eyes are prominently painted. The semi-circular eyebrows are painted in thick black lines. The face is glossy and painted in lemon yellow. The moustache is curved at the ends. One set of teeth in plain white is visible. The lips are painted red. This character wears an artificial beard.
