The fibula has a solid, ridged bow, decorated with a ring of globules above a thinner part wound with plain wire, which connects it with the sheath. The sheath is made of gold sheet in the form of a prism closed on all sides, with a triangular piece of gold sheet affixed to either end. Along the upper side of the sheath are three parallel pieces of concave ribbon, with a cross-piece of similar ribbon near the end, and a globule above each longitudinal ribbon at the end of the sheath. The opposite end of the bow terminate in a hexagonal knob decorated with a bead-and-reel mouldning at the base. Underneath this end is a transverse hexagonal bar, hollow, and terminating in two similar knobs. One of these is movable and provided with a peg partly wound with square wire, by which it can be screwed in and out in order to fasten and unfasten the looped end of the pin, which is inserted into a slit in the middle of the bar. The pointed end of the pin is inserted into the sheath by a hole in the triangular end-piece under the row.
