Object is in good condition overall, but some loss of plant fibres has occurred during handling for deinstallation. Plant fibres have likely become embrittled during long-term exhibition. Small spots of black paint along lower front edge of shield may have occurred post collection? Verso of shield is intact. Small rectangular shaped area of white residue on upper PL surface may be from prior application of self-adhesive tape. Mounting fishing line removed from around carved handle. Surface cleaned overall using non-contact air puffer and light vacuum. MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS: HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS: Plant fibre elements are prone to loss and require careful handling. Avoid touching the pigmented surface as the pigment is not firmly bound to the surface of the shield and prone to loss.
