Name and identification of character
A Sanni mask, possibly depicting blindness, kana sanniya (Sin.).
Context
The demon ceremony known as Sanni yakuma (Sin.) or Daha-Ata-Sanniya (Sin.)(see Preface)
Material
Wood, vel-kaduru (Sin.) (Nux vomica).
Iconography
The mask is unfinished. Paint is sporadically applied. The eyes are not painted and give the impression of blindness. Furrows are cut on the cheeks, and crudely painted in red and yellow. The open mouth displays three big teeth and red lips. Crudely cut small ears. The hair on the head is painted black. The chin is parted in the middle.
