An Indian or Javanese mercenary in the service of the British constabulary, a sipoyi (Sin.).
Context
The dance of the policemen, called Polis Kolama.
Material
Wood, vel-kaduru (Sin.) (Nux vomica).
Iconography
The cap is fairly high-cut and slightly conical in shape. It is yellowish in colour. The lower edge of the hat, with a thin circular rim, shades the forehead. The number 1890 is registered on the cap, indicating when the cap was manufactured (similar to mask no. 1916.9.107). The authority of the character is expressed through the imposing moustache drawn in black.
