Samlingen kompletterar det stora beståndet av etnografiska föremål (från ett stort antal olika samlingar) på Etnografiska museet. Papper är ett material som förekommer i Mexikos "traditionella" etnografi, inte minst bland indiankulturerna där pappersutsmyckningar (även under förkolumbisk tid med bl.a. barkpapper) förekommer i shamanistiska , katolskt sakrala men även i profana sammanhang. Anne Murray var under många decennier anställd, under perioder även t.f. chef, på Etnografiska museet, fram till 2010-talet, ansvarade under de senaste åren för museets bildarkiv. Litteratur, se bl.a.: Handbook of Middle American Indians (flertal volymer); även t.ex. C. Sayer, Arts and Crafts of Mexico (1990); A.R. Sandstrom and P.E. The collection is an addition to the very large pool of ethnographical objects (belonging to a large amount of different collections) from Mexico at the Museum of Ethnography. Paper is commonly used in the "traditional" ethnography/contexts in Mexico, not the least among the many contemporary different Mexican Indian ethno-linguistic groups. Paper decorations are found in shamanistic contexts, in catholic contexts and in profane contexts. Bark paper was used during the Precolumbian period. Anne Murray was for many decades employed at the Museum of Ethnography, during some periods as ad hoc director, till the 2010s and was for a period e.g. in charge of the photo archive.
