Depositioner, Loans

Bland Etnografiska museets samlingar finns ett antal depositioner. Det innebär lån av föremål under längre tid från t.ex. museer och stiftelser. Med tiden övergår ibland en del av depositionerna till att bli en gåva. De tidigaste depositionerna går tillbaka till 1800-talet. På senare tid så undviker många museer depositioner från privatpersoner av praktiska, ekonomiska och juridiska skäl.
År 1933 deponerade Nordiska museet en stor samling, över 1000 föremål, från inuiterna på Grönland. Samlingen införlivades senare i Etnografiska museet.

Some of the items in the collections of the Museum of Ethnography are on loan. They have been lent for a long period of time, for example from other museums or from foundations. Over time, some of them have become gifts. The earliest loans go back to the 19th century. Nowadays many museums are avoiding loans from private persons, for practical, economical and legal reasons.
In 1933 the Nordic Museum / Nordiska Museet handed over a large collection, more than 1000 items from the Inuit culture in Greenland , on loan to the Museum of Ethnography. Those items were later incorporated in the collections of the Museum of Ethnography.
