57 the 26th of November 1928 C.R. Hughes Esq. Ernest Benn Ltd. 154 Pleet Street OM KOM RO — vr Dear Ur, Hughes, Many thanks for your letter of Novembar 22nd giving me the good news that you are actually working on the final typographtical arrange- ment of my book, I hope bhat the work will progreasg speodily and I will certainly 40 my best ts make it 20 smogthly, but 238 you remark some | delays will become inevitable through my avsenée from Surope. It is of sourse essential that I should see complåte proofs of the whole work and I would prapose that you shofFld send me the galleyproofs in dupli- Gate of oach vblmee as soon as possible to the addresses which I indicated in my p.m. I will read those galleyprocfs and return them 28 Toon an possible by way of my translator and friend MH. Buhot wbko knows English perfectiy and who will be able to road and control the seconé proofs. Thus I hone that the delays not will be to long. The best woulå be of course if you could get the complöte galleyproofas of the first volume to me in Paris (Musée Cuimet, place d ”Iena) hefora Recember 11tih when I sail oa the Olympic. Otherwiga you must sena them after me t The most suitable titlag for tha four volumes would be as follows: I. TER PREHISTORIC PRRIONS; THU CHOU AND CH”IN DYNASTIES. II. The decorative arte of the HAN AND SIX DYNASTIRS. II. CHINESE SCULPTURE from the Han to the King dynasty. IV, CHINZSE ARCHITECTURB from the Han period to modern times. Volume 5 is supposed to treat the decorative arts of the T"ang and Sung periods and volume 6 should give a general survey of Chinese painting. I should be very much interested to see the proofsa also of your prospectus which if it does not reach me in Stoekholm before I leave eertalnly aught to be ready before I leave Paris. Please note in tha prosyectus as you can verkfy on the list of plates, that tha number of plates of separate volumes varie Bedween 10L1-128 besides which there will be wuite a number o?f linedrawings in the text. The proofs for the titles of the plates ere of sourse just as important as the proefs of ihe text. I am still lacking confirmation from dr. Classen that the agreed payment of £ 50== a volume on the delivery of the text has veen fulfilled, bur as you have signed this condition and now are working on the manuseript I expeck it must have been då0one and hppe to receive the oonfirmation in & day or two from dr. Classen. Tours very truly
