v0I5b You will see that the volume in question consists prineipally of & emwmeeping survey of the cehronology of garly chinese bronges pre- vared by professor Bernhard Karlgren, our famous sinologue. I feel convinced that this paper marks a very considerable step forward in the INRE ha of chinese bronzechronology. In the second paper The Goldsmith of ancient China I heve handled the mestjon of the chronology of inlald bronzes and feel that I have been abld to inereas the age of a very big group of inlald bronzes with about half a millennium, from the time of Christ to about 550 BAN The majority of these early inlaid bronzes became kriown through local excavations at Chin Tsun near modern Lo-yang as shown by prof. essor Te jr, white in his volume Tombs of old Lo=-yang. $ so” fer an exhaustive monograph of the Chin Taun inlaid bronzes has never been attempted. But in my paper The Goldsmith in ancient China we have introduced a system of line drawings which show unroll- ed patterns in their entirety in such a way that comparisons from ene specimen to another can be executed in every exact detail. H.R.H. the Crownprince who has taken very active part in the study of this inlald bronzes has expressed the desire to have in our Pulletin & monograph, as complete as possible, of all the inlaid bronzs es from Chin Tsun. During my stay in London together with the Crownprince we were = so fortunate to reach an agreement with Mr. C.T. Loo, who is at pres- ent the owner of the vast majority of inlaid Chin Tsun bronzes. Mr. Loo has promised us all facilities to study this bronzges and to make the necessary enveloped line drawings and I hope to go to Paris in March to study this bronzes in every detail. My only difficulty is that because of the abundant illustrations this volume of our Bulletin will be exceptionally expensive, I calculate that the monograph on the Chin faun bronzes will carry the cost of 2000 dollars. 3 Stockholm on the 1l9th of Dec. 1935. I.Å, Mrs William H. Moore, Four Fast, stth Street, New York, Dear Frs Moore. At my return from a three ”eeks”stay in London in connection with the Exhibition of Chinese Art I found your beautiful Ohristmas greeting and wish to return the compliments of the season with our modest means. The small and handwritten Christmas card which I here enclose is a Photograph taken of the colossal marble Buddha forming tha centre of the whole London Exhibition. The personal interest connected with this picture taken by my secretary is that you see at the foot of the Buddha Mr O.T.Loo, owner of this remarkable spec- inen of dhinese art. In this museum we have worked hard for about a vears time to prepare a publication dedicated to the Royal Academy of Arts and to the executive committåe of the exhibition. This volume which I sand you, under separate cover, was presented to the Academy by F.R.H. tha Crownprince of Sweden when he presided at the first lecture giv- en by Sir Percival David. bolSa
