0346. Stockholm den 18 Sept. 1928 Dra J.Ge Andersson, Östasiatiska Samlingarna Stockholm Sweden My dear DP. Andersson, As you know the Director of the Art Institute and myself have ösen most interested in the character and importance of the work you have been doing to shed ligh& upon the early culture of China, I feel that it would be an honor for our Institution if we could do something to assist you in carrying the work further, but realize, after conversations with H.R.H. the Crown Prisce and yourself, that present conditions in China will necessitate a radically new method of procedure whieh cannot be deter mined without further investigation and study. If, after your proposed survey in the fleld, you believe that we can be of assistance in forming a joint expedition under the patronage of the Crown Prince, I shall be most happy to do my best to raise the fund for sueh an expedition. It seems to me, and to you also, I believe that it would be useless at this time to stipulate what form such an expedition should take, and what the conditions of its procedure should be, but I think that we understand each other well enough for you to realize that I shall be glad to cooperate to the best of my ability in supporting the worth while type of work in China whieh you are contemplating . | Believe me, very sincerely yours, | Charles Kelly assistent direotor and curator of Oriental Art. The Art Institute of Chicago,
