FR NER TAGER FR a s/ Eg 5 nd < a OM January 3rd, 1928 Dr. H.G. Leach, The Forum, 2117 Park Avenue, New York, N.Y. Dear Dr. Leach: When you visited Stockholm in the autum of 1925, if I am not mistaken, you telephoned me once and asked me to write for The Forum en article on my ercheologicel work in China. At that time a very small portion only of my ex- tensive collections had been unpacked. In fect, at that time the housing of the collections thatnthey could not be properly arranged for scientific study. In the course of 1926 a new museum department was organized to receive my collections which are now very well housed in quite comfortable quarters. About one fourth of the material is still unpacked, but I have the materiel so well in hand that I would be quite prepared to wite the article if you still want to have it. It may be useful to inform you that absolutely nothing has so far been written about this material, except the very preliminary reports which I published in China before my return to Hurope. Conseguently, I feel that this would be the proper time to write an article such as you desired. By the end of this year I intend to publish a volume on "China Before History", and the article in The Forum should,of course, be published before the appearance of my book. I understand from what you told me over the telephone that you want a popular, but strictly scientific discussion of the theories arising out of my discoveries, I feel inclined to try to do this now when I have got a eclearer conception and a much richer mat- erial of the Sythian things which are closely connected with the yöungest of my cultures discovered in Kansu. I would like to name my article, "The Highway of Asia," the main purpose being to describe the remarkable migration belt which extends from the Black Sea to the Pacific, a belt of desert and steppe over which migrations have taken place repeatedly 2&l1l since the Palae- olithic, through the remarkable migrations of the younger Stone Age down to the spread of the Sythian culture over the whole extent of the said belö. In the event tnat you are still interested in the scheme originally suggested by you, please write me a brief statement of the iength of tne article, the number of illustrations desired, etc. iours very truly, Curator, Östasiatiska Samlingarna, Sveavägen 65, Stockholm
