0572, 9 Bec. 1930, I want to point out that this procedure or rather lack of procedure hage done injury to our Swedish co-workers as well as to oursslvsas. If Prof. Viman, for example, has taken us into his con- fidencs about the amount of material still waiting to be described, the number of monographs still to be issued and the time necessary, our attitude might have been quite different. 1 want to point out that in making the proposals contained in my letter of 25 June it was far from my mind to force our Swedish colleagues to "file up menuseripts". On the contrary it was my esgerness to get more things printed within a given time that I proposed the printing to be done here. Otherwise we might limit our finanelel responsibility to 15,000 & year and leave the busg'ness of printing in Hr. Lagrelius” hands. It may not be too late yet for Prof. filmen to reconsider the matter, If for example he can give us a detailed program the cerrying out of which does not entail impossible finanelal burdens or interminable deleays, why, I for my part will not be adverse to have the whole of his program esrried out in Sweden. Tnirdly, I want to sey frankly that we consider tne Geological Survey has the sole right of publishing the results of studles made of the material galleg ted by you. I cannot but remind you tnat in the letter written by the Swedish Committee to Dr. Fong and myself on the 31 Dec. 1921, it was clearly stated that "as to the way of publishing the selentific results it is fully acknowledged by us that Pr. £ndersson has agreed to that ell the monographs will be published by the Geological Survey of China, Ye accept this as one of the essen< tial points of the agreement." Therefore whilst we cannot förece our Swedish collesgues to write their monographs for us, we will certainly : consider it a violation of the agreement if anything is printed on the material collectså by you without our permission in any publication other than the Palaeontologia Sinica. I repeat what I have sald in my letter to Prof. Halle, namely, we are ready to have the plates printed in Europe. I am making a contract with & professional proof-resadder in the Peking Teader to read sl1l1l our final proofs with the understanding that he under- takes to reprint any peges contalning mistakes overlooked by him. If our colleagues sre resdy to let us have a trial, I think we can satisfy . tnem provided that the manuscript is carefully type-written. Dr. Grabau will be asked to see that the headings ete, are properly arrsnged and uniform snå the paid proofreader will be responsible for the rest. Tne final proof can then be sent to Europe for approval. I understand frov Nr. Lagrelius that there is a paper by P. RR. Lowe of London on ”Struthions Hemeains."
