0327, MUSEUM VAN AZIATISCHE KUNST DER VEREENIGING VAN VRIENDEN DER AZIATISCHE KUNST STEDELIJK MUSEUM - AMSTERDAM CONSERVATOR: H. F. E. VISSER 3oth Dec.l933. fa Je G. Andersson stasiatiska Samlingarna Sveavägen 65 StTtrcER 9 ln Dear Professor, Thank you so much for your kind letter of 22.XII. Rather long ago, we have already been asked in an informal way whether we should like to partake in the new Karl- beck syndicate., The suggestion came to us through London friends. Since the Committee of our Society, consisting of eight genlemen — Dr. Westendorp, our President, and I are two of these eight — ,decides in matters of buying, the suggestion was brought before this Committee. For various reasons we thought it better not to partake. There is one great difficulty : about four out of the eight gentlemen are against buying many small Chinese bronzess; Already much money has been spent in buying early Chinese objects. Therefore, even with the Karlbeck Syndicate out of thecquestion, it ig not an easy task for Dr. Westendorp and me to get a majori- ty, incelined to buy more early Chinese objects. About the middle of January there will be held a Committee meeting. We shall again discuss the matter. If you could kindly write how many shares there will be, and how much each share will cost (inclusive all expenses and percentage for Mr. Karlbeck), I can bring the matter again before the Committee, Thank you so much for the fine album of the best results of the third expedition. I certainly like the objects Mr. Karlbeck bought in 1931-32 better than those he bought in 1930-31. My assistent, Miss van Wessem, got the two albums devoted to the latter expedition. Since I am extremely interested in many of the ob- jeets illustrated so very well in the album you sent me, kindly tell me whether it will be possible, quite apart from our parta- king in the new Syndicate, to include this highly valuable docu- ment in our Library. Waiting for your answer, which I hope will reach me before 12 January, believe me, yours sincerely,
