Hajj är den stora vallfärden till Mecka. Alla muslimer som har råd och möjlighet bör en gång i livet göra hajj.

Med ökat välstånd och förenklade transporter kan och vill fler än vad som får plats komma varje år. Därför får varje land en kvot av de saudiarabiska myndigheterna. För dem som får en plats är det mycket praktiskt som ska förberedas: köpa biljetter, hitta boende på hotell, ordna vaccinationer och visum. För detta finns det auktoriserade resebyråer som ordnar paketresor, där det också ingår en guide och kanske förberedande träffar.

Men den bästa förberedelsen är att planera för stort tålamod. Under en kort tidsperiod är det många människor från världens alla hörn som samlas i Mecka. Det blir ofta trångt och många timmars väntan.

The best preparation of all is to plan to be very patient indeed. For a brief period, many people from every corner of the world gather in Mecca. It is often crowded, with many hours of waiting.
